Taylor Fritz is still in pursuit of the ATP Finals as the American needs to win the vent in order to have a hcance. He played really well in Paris last week and if he can play at a similar level again, he might have a chance.
It’s unlikely but he can only take it match by match and the first match is against Davidovich Fokina.
They played three times so far and Fokina is leading 2-1 but all three of those matches came on play and that’s the far better surface for the Spaniard. On hard courts, Fritz clearly has the advantage but he hasn’t play that well lately. His last good event was the Tokyo 500 event where won the trophy.
Since then it’s been mostly lacklustre performances with a foot injury bothering him in Vienna last week when Shapovalov proved better.
While he most likely won’t get the Finals, he still has a really strong season behind him with a chance to finish it on a high note.

Davidovich Fokina Struggling for Form
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has not played that well lately with his last event, where he won consecutive matches, at the US Open.
Since then it’s been mostly defeats in round one as he lost in Gijon, Astana and Basel. It’s unlikely he’ll change that in Paris because he’s playing a player who is both better and more motivated.
He would like to finish off the season on a high note but indoors are one of his worst surfaces and he has struggled there traditionally. He’s 0-5 this year and 9-10 last year so it’s clearly not the best surface for him. His serve is not consistent enough to be a weapon.
His groundstrokes also can be hit-and-miss but his speed could be an asset in Paris. Playing against Fokina can be very annoying and Fritz can have issues with frustration at times so that’s maybe something he can look to use in this matchup.

If this was played on clay we might get an interesting match. This way I think we will get Fritz winning this comfortably.
