Jessica Pegula v Petra Kvitova Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Kvitova leads the head to head 2-1.
The last of these matches came at the US Open played earlier this year where Pegula notched up her first and only win over Kvitova, a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

Pegula Coming off a Season-Ending Low
For a player who had one of her best seasons ever, Pegula would be a tad aggrieved with how it ended in the WTA Finals.
Pegula finished as a world number three player in 2022, having won her first WTA 1000 title when she clinched the Guadalajara Open towards the end of 2022. It was a sterling performance that included wins over Elena Rybakina, Bianca Andreescu, Sloane Stephens, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sakkari – all top women’s singles players in their own right.
That had been preceded by a runner-up trophy at the Madrid Open and appearances in the Miami Open and Canadian Open semifinal.
Which is why when she took to court for the WTA Finals late last season, Pegula would have loved to do a lot better than winning just one set across the three matches she played. Defeats to Sakkari, Ons Jabeur and Aryna Sabalenka meant she ended last in the group.
Can she kick things off on a more positive note here?

Kvitova Hoping to Improve on 2022
A former Wimbledon champion and world number two, Kvitova’s recent showings at the highest level have seen reasonable success but not enough to maintain a top-10 ranking.
Kvitova clinched one title in 2022, on her favourite grass but did not have a great clay court swing as she lost four of her five matches.
On the other hand, there was another finals appearance which came at the Cincinnati Open but there were other underwhelming showings too.
A first round defeat at the Australian Open comes to mind. So does an opening loss in Toronto and while she did get to the fourth round at the US Open that followed, Kvitova would have loved to do better than the 27-19 win-loss record she ended the season on.
Can she put up a solid showing against Pegula?
