Matteo Berrettini v Thiago Monteiro
Matteo Berrettini played only one match leading up to this event and it was at the Diriyah Tennis Cup where Wawrinka proved better. The big-serving Italian needs some time to get back into a good rhythm after a foot injury prevented him from playing in the final weeks of the season.
Thiago Monteiro has played Berrettini once before and it was a close match in Brazil. The match went to three sets with Matteo winning in the end but he had an easy straight-sets win in hand before throwing away a lead in the second set.
This one should favour the Italian greatly as hard courts limit what Monteiro does well quite a bit. I think the Italian wins this easily so our recommendation is to be a bit bold and try for the games handicap. It’s a pretty big one but he could cover it if he plays a good match.
Tip: Games Handicap Berrettini -4.5: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Jessica Pegula v Petra Kvitova
Jessica Pegula and Petra Kvitova will kick off the United Cup for their respective nations hoping for a victory. It’s a pretty big matchup between two players who are capable of playing some amazing tennis and both play aggressively. Pegula has had a lot of success in Australia over the years with Kvitova doing some damage as well.
It’s hard to predict who might win this one because it will be the first match for both in the new season but there are some trends to observe. Pegula has been far more consistent with her level lately which makes her far more likely to produce a good level here.
She is only 1-2 against Kvitova historically so that is something to remember. The final one was won by Pegula and I do think she’ll likely win this one. She should get it done but if you’re feeling a bit more willing to risk, you can try the games handicap on her.
Tip: Games Handicap Pegula -1.5: 6/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
Stan Wawrinka v Alexander Bublik
Another very interesting matchup features Wawrinka playing Bublik in what might end up a close battle. They played twice this year with Bublik winning both matches but both times Wawrinka could have done far more. He’s certainly played more tennis than Bublik lately and he actually played well.
Wawrinka has done well in Australia in the past and this is a match he could certainly win, especially since Bublik tends to throw away matches with his unserious play at times. Despite that, I think Bublik will try to do well as he’s playing for his nation.
The conditions should favour their serves quite a bit so we might see some tiebreaks here. I certainly think three sets are on the table as well so backing the over on games seems like a sensible decision. The mark is quite high showing that it’s somewhat expected.
Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 19/20 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
