Alison van Uytvanck v Isabella Shinikova Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the ITF circuit and way back in 2011 with van Uytvanck winning it in straight sets.

With a career-best ranking of 37th and a season-best of 40th in the world in 2022, van Uytvanck looked to be headed in the right direction.
Unfortunately for her, a slump in her performances following a WTA 125 title win in Gaiba left her struggling. Such was turnaround in van Uytvanck’s form, she went into a WTA 125 competition in Andorra late in November on the back of just one win from six matches.
While she did make it to the quarterfinals there, an opening defeat at the WTA Angers pushed van Uytvanck down to 72nd on the WTA charts.
What van Uytvanck would like is for her to make a strong start against a player ranked outside the top 380 and to then build on that momentum over the next couple of months on a surface she prefers to play on as compared to clay.

Shinikova Coming off Three-Set Loss
Ranked 158th in the world, Despina Papamichail did hold bit of an edge over Shinikova in their opening encounter at this opening edition of the United Cup.
Which is why when Shinikova won the opening set of their meeting, it looked like an upset was in the offing.
Except it didn’t pan out that way with Papamichail managing to overturn the lead and carve out a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Shinikova. The match lasted two hours and 19 minutes.
Shinikova’s problem was her first serve – the numbers deteriorated as the match went along. For someone who got 64% of her first serves in and won 71% of those points in the first set, she managed to get in just 53% of them in the second and third set.
Not surprisingly, the win % also fell to 58% and 20% respectively in the next two sets.
The Bulgarian will hope to get her serving in place against an opponent who was a top-40 in the world till last season.
van Uytvanck v Shinikova Prediction and Tip
Van Uytvanck starts off a heavy favourite here with Shinikova’s struggles in the first match bearing testimony to how much of a gap there could be between her and her opponent here. Expect a straight-set win for the Belgian.
