The Spaniard, who had never reached an ATP 1000 final before, triumphed at the Canadian Open by beating Hubert Hurkacz in the final. That was the only title that Carreno Busta won in 2022. He had also reached the final at the Barcelona Open but went down to compatriot Carlos Alcaraz in a lopsided encounter.
Overall, the two-time U.S. Open semifinalist has featured in 12 ATP singles finals, winning seven titles and finishing runner-up on five occasions.
Carreno Busta has a decent record on both clay and hard surfaces. But was particularly good on hard courts in 2022.

Evans Outplayed by Kubler in Opener
Daniel Evans had a tough start to the United Cup campaign as he lost his opening singles match against Jason Kubler on Day 2 on Friday.
Great Britain had already taken a 3-0 lead against Australia when Dan Evans took the court for his singles match, but he couldn’t keep the perfect record intact as he went down to the World no. 107 in straight sets.
The 32-year-old conceded the only break of the first set in the eighth game and Kubler served out the set in the next to take a one-set-to-love lead.
Evans looked in complete control of the second set as he raced to a 5-0 lead, but the Aussie, egged on by the home crowd, made a stunning comeback to draw level. He then went on to dominate the tiebreak to take the match 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
Ranked 27th in the world, Evans is coming off a 30-27 season. He is a one-time champion on the tour, but didn’t reach a single final last season. His best in 2022 included three semifinal appearances.

Carreno Busta is the favourite in this contest. Although both has a good track record on hard courts, Carreno Busta has been more effective on the surface ad has also won four titles on hard courts.
