Andy Murray v Sebastian Korda Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at Gijon in 2022 and Korda had won that quarterfinal encounter in three sets.

Murray Rises to 49th in the World

There have been question-marks around Murray’s continued participation at the highest level because of his fitness issues but so far the Brit has been able to prove all those detractors wrong.

Sure, he might not be a Grand Slam title contender but he did come close to winning a tournament on the ATP circuit in 2022. Murray will hope he can continue to fight for those titles.

What he would also hope for is a steady rise in the rankings as well, with the Briton having begun the 2022 season ranked 135th in the world and ended on 49th. His year-best was 43rd, having gotten there after reaching the third round at US Open.

The question is whether he can consistently overcome the younger crop, those of the quality of Korda, who has already risen up to 33rd in the world.

Korda Breaks into the Top 30

While Korda’s ranking fluctuated a tad in 2022, the biggest takeaway for the American was that he broke into the top 30 of the ATP Rankings for the first time last season.

Having started off as a 41st-ranked played, Korda third around appearance at Australian Open and then a semifinal in Estoril ensured that. Another third round at French Open followed before he suffered a string of early reverses on grass and in Atlanta.

With the Wimbledon points not counting towards any player’s tally, Korda dropped on the charts to 59th having made the fourth round in 2021.

His recovery came courtesy of Gijon and Antwerp, with Korda making the final at both the tournaments. And while he lost both those matches – to Andrey Rublev and Felix Auger-Aliassime – the sense one got was he was slowly moving towards that bigger prize.

That bigger prize of making the latter rounds at bigger tournaments and of winning more ATP titles.

Can he start the season off on a high too?

Murray v Korda Prediction and Tip

This could be a tough call with Korda holding that edge against the Brit. That said, there could be a bit of rustiness for him with Murray having played in a couple of rounds at the Battle of the Brits. Expect a three-setter.
