Priscilla Hon is eager to test herself against some of the best players in the world in order to improve her game. She’s still sitting outside of the top 100 and that’s not the goal for her. Being a native Australian player will give her plenty of chances in the coming weeks and it comes against a qualifier here.
She’s always been a very decent player on hard courts and playing at home should certainly give her a push in this tricky matchup for her.
She never played Liu before and her last official match is over a month ago which isn’t the case for Liu who already played two on these courts.
36-15 was the score for Hon on hard courts last year but she’ll face a tricky challenge in a very skilled counter-pinched in Liu. Everything Hon does well will be turned against her so she will need to find something more in her game to win this match.

Liu overcomes Siniakova and Frech
Getting into the main draw of this event took a lot of effort from Liu as she faced two very good players. Both Frech and Siniakova are experienced players who play their best tennis on hard courts but Liu was able to skillfully navigate herself to a victory.
Her playstyle might have something to do with it because she’s really strong in sending the ball back and that was particularly useful for Siniakova who hits the ball very hard but that’s about it. Hon is a similar player so that’s something she could exploit in this matchup.
Liu is the better player already and to a degree more experienced on the WTA tour. All of that contributes to why she’s the overwhelming favourite to win this one.
Having played two more matches than Hon already adds to that as well.
Hon v Liu Prediction and Tip
Liu is favoured for a reason here and I think she wins this one in straight sets. I just don’t see a way for Hon to bother her too much, particularly without any matches under her belt.
