Wang, Starting on High Note

Xiyu Wang ended the 2022 season on a solid footing with a career-best ranking of World No. 50.

The 21-year-old Chinese is starting the new season from the same position – this time looking to go further. Wang was quite impressive throughout the year; her tally was 41-25, with 18 wins on hard courts and 23 on clay.

She also reached the final in four tournaments – three ITF and one Challenger but couldn’t quite go the distance.

Xiyu last played in Cluj Napoca, where she lost in the semifinal to Jasmine Paolini.

Muchova, Seeking Resurgence

Former World No. 19 and current World No. 151 Karolina Muchova is hoping for a turnaround in fortunes this season.

The 26-year-old Czech had a late start to the 2022 season after recovering from a tricky abdominal injury that she picked up at the US Open 2021. She returned to the tour after a hiatus of seven months and played her first match of the year in Miami, reaching round three.

A couple of months later, she twisted her ankle in the French Open third round against Amanda Anisimova, thus forcing her to retire from the match.

It was a wobbly spell for Muchova thereafter as she struggled to deliver consistent results. In the nine tournaments she featured in, Karolina bagged just six wins. Her highlight was the Tallinn Open where she made it as far as the quarters.

Muchova v Wang Prediction and Tip

A lot in this match will depend on Muchova’s fitness. If she is at her 100%, she may very well send Wang packing, but if she is still rusty, then she may be in for a fight. Expect a cracking affair.
