Jannik Sinner v Thanasi Kokkinakis Head to Head

Their only previous encounter came at the 2022 Cincinnati Open and Sinner had scraped to a three-set win that included two tie-breakers.

Sinner Registers Easy Win over Edmund

Sinner might have gone off the boil towards the latter portion of the previous season and finished the year ranked 15th after being ninth at one point but that did not stop him from easing to an opening round win.

In a first round match that lasted a mere 66 minutes, Sinner won 6-3, 6-2 against Britain’s Kyle Edmund.

Such was the dominance of the sixth seeded Sinner that he faced no break-points in the entire match and won all but five points on his own serve. In turn he also broke his opponent three times in the match.

Edmund hasn’t played a lot of tennis in recent times but coming up against Kokkinakis, Sinner will have to contend with an extra element – the crowd support his opponent might get. Sinner’s pedigree is good enough though to handle that, by the looks of things.

Kokkinakis Stretched by Cressy

There wasn’t too much to choose between Kokkinakis and Maxime Cressy entering into their first round match and the match turned out to be exactly like that.

While the Aussie did manage to register a straight-set win, it wasn’t without incident and lasted two hours and nine minutes with both sets going to a tie-breaker.

Serve played a huge role in the encounter as both players slammed 20+ aces and lost their respective serves just one apiece. In the first set incidentally, there were no break-points for either Kokkinakis or Cressy.

In the second, Kokkinakis missed out on two match-points before saving a set-point of his own. He clinched the encounter off the third match-point he got.

Can the Aussie now dish out a serve-schooling to Sinner as well in this second round encounter?

Sinner v Kokkinakis Prediction and Tip

Sinner is 3/10 to win this and that should be a straightforward call to make. We expect Kokkinakis to put up a fight but to still go down in straight sets.
