Jason Kubler v Tomas Etcheverry Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players, including one in the qualifiers of the previous Australian Open. Both have won one apiece.

Kubler had won their more recent encounter at the Los Cabos Open last year after losing in the second qualifying round of the previous season’s opening Grand Slam.

Kubler Coming off Twin Wins in the United Cup

Australia did not have the greatest of times at the United Cup but Kubler can hold his head high with the way he performed.

Opening up against Britain’s Dan Evans in the opening encounter, Kubler was a straight-set winner over his 27th-ranked opponent. He followed it up with a fighting victory in his second match against Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas to make it 2-0.

Unfortunately for him, he could not add to his ranking points because Australia crashed out of the tournament in the very first round but that did not mean his ranking did not see an improvement.

Having started off the year as a 107th-ranked player, he enters this second week 86th in the world.

And now, taking on an Argentine qualifier who is known for his clay court exploits, there is no doubting Kubler will have a golden chance to make it three wins in a row.

Etcheverry Comes Through Qualifiers

As qualifying draws go, Etcheverry had one of the easiest one he could have hoped for. Due credit to him, however, he made it through without any trouble.

Starting out against the 561st-ranked Luke Saville, Etcheverry was a 3/10 favourite and lived up to those expectations with a 6-1, 6-3 win over his Aussie opponent.

This was followed by Robin Haase’s presence in the second qualifier – the Dutchman was once ranked 33rd in the world but entered the qualifiers as a 257th-ranked player. Again, Etcheverry dropped just six games in his straight-set rout of Haase.

The trouble, however, is Etcheverry is more of a clay-courter and his record on hard court surfaces isn’t much to write home about.

Against a player in the kind of form that Kubler is, Etcheverry will have his work cut out.

Kubler v Etcheverry Prediction and Tip

Kubler should have no difficulties in this with a straight-set win expected for the Aussie.
