Cameron Norrie v Jiri Lehecka Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2021 Davis Cup where Norrie won in three sets.

Norrie Returns from Excellent United Cup Campaign

Norrie has opted to feature in this tournament in the lead-up to the Australian Open having won all his three matches at the United Cup for Great Britain.

His side was unable to progress to the semifinal because of which Norrie was left with some extra time to try and fine-tune his preparations for the year’s opening Grand Slam. Had they made it the semis and beyond Norrie might not have been playing here.

What’s remarkable to see is how well Norrie performed at the United Cup.

He kick-started his campaign with a straight-set win over Alex de Minaur and then sent Rafael Nadal and Spain packing with a three-set win over the 22-time Grand Slam winner.

This was followed by another three-set win over Taylor Fritz, making it three in three but Great Britain lost all the remaining four matches of that tie to USA.

Can he now get himself going in this competition after having moved up a couple of notches on the rankings?

Lehecka Overcomes Monteiro in Opener

Having qualified for this competition with a couple of three-set wins, Lehecka came through in straight sets against Thiago Monteiro to seal his second round berth.

The Czech player carved out a 6-3, 7-5 victory in nearly an hour and a half, but what was impressive to watch was he held on to his serve throughout the encounter.

Lehecka, who had also featured in the United Cup where he stunned Alexander Zverev, earned eight breaking opportunities in the match too, needing two of them in the end to advance. The first came in the sixth game of the opening set and the second in the 11th of the second.

The stakes will be a lot higher now with Norrie expected to mount a far more serious challenge than any of the opponents he has faced so far this competition.

That said, the confidence from his performances so far might help him put up a show.

Norrie v Lehecka Prediction and Tip

Norrie will be our pick to win this as one would expect but expect Lehecka to be a strong contender to push this into a third set.
