Bouchard Looking to Reinvent her Form
Bouchard, who recently turned 25, had a great deal of success back in 2014 when she reached the final at Wimbledon. The very same year, she reached the final in WTA Wuhan too and in both the cases, she lost to Petra Kvitova.
After that, Bouchard’s form took a massive hit on the tour. She dropped out of the top 50 owing to constant struggles with form but always kept trying to reach the top again. She didn’t have much luck up until this season when she won her first title in any aspect since 2014.
It was the doubles title in Auckland that she won with Sofia Kenin, defeating the team of Taylor Townsend and Paige Mary Hourigan. The Canadian followed this run with a quarterfinal stint in the 125K Series event in Newport Beach, where she lost to Bianca Andreescu.
However, she failed to replicate these feats on the WTA Tour, losing early in Doha and Dubai.

Flipkens Looking for a Good Run
Flipkens, who is seeking her second singles title on the tour, has started her season on a very mundane note. The two-time Libema Open runner-up lost in the second round in Auckland and in the first round in the Australian Open.
Between these two events, she played in Hobart where she was a quarterfinalist. Her last event on the tour before coming to Indian Wells was WTA St. Petersburg, where she lost to Alison Van Uytvanck in the first round.
Just like Bouchard, Flipkens’ form hasn’t been that great either over in recent times. The Belgian has been struggling rather often, barring a few exceptions. Last year, Flipkens reached the semifinal in WTA Nurnberg and quarterfinal in WTA Lugano.

This will be an interesting fixture for many reasons. For one, both of them are evenly matched for this game simply because of their recent form. And secondly, Bouchard and Flipkens were on the opposite ends of the court as recently as yesterday.
They were playing their doubles tie, partnered respectively with Sloane Stephens and Johanna Larsson. Flipkens and Larsson won that match 6-1, 6-2 and the Belgian will be eager to extend the same run in the singles tie too.
