Jaume Munar played two matches so far in 2023 with both coming on hard courts and both were losses. The Spaniard is not a good player on hard courts and he’s proving it.
To be fair, he’s not entirely bad on hard courts but he’s never going to be a very strong player on this surface either. He went 14-10 on the surface last year and that’s very respectable for a player that mainly works on being good on clay.
The losses came against Tallon Griekspoor and Laslo Djere, two players that are both considered far better on hard courts so it’s not a surprise. He’s played a few times in Australia already and he made the second round once. This is a matchup he can win but he’ll need to be at his best.
Whether he can really do that remains to be seen.

Svrcina Qualifies with Three Wins
Dalibor Svrcina earned quite a few wins in his quest to qualify for the main draw of the Australian Open. Three wins to be precise and all came against fairly solid tennis players.
Svrcina is a typical young player that plays very aggressively with a lot of confidence. It can work out well and it has so far in Melbourne but it can also work out badly. The final qualifying win over Leandro Rieda was his most impressive one and that makes me think he might surprise here.
Svrcina should have enough to win this matchup but it will largely depend on how he handles this moment. It will also be a test to his physical strength and winning a 3-set or maybe even 4-set match is a totally different beast than winning a two-set match.
It’s not something he has done before.
Munar v Svrcina Prediction and Tip
This will be a tough matchup for either player. Svrcina can win despite being the underdog but he will need to outlast Munar physically to do so. I’m not so sure he will be able to do that so the over might be a good option.
