Jil Teichmann v Harriet Dart Head to Head

Dart leads Teichmann 1-0 in their head-to-head. She defeated the Swiss in the second round of Eastbourne last summer.

Teichmann Secures Seeding Spot

Jil Teichmann has secured the last seeding spot at this year’s women’s draw, but could be seething at the prospect of facing the fast-improving Harriet Dart.

The Briton shocked Teichmann at Eastbourne last year, and the Swiss will have taken note of Dart’s battling qualities at the United Cup where she came close to defeating Paula Badosa.

Teichmann went 1-1 at the United Cup as Switzerland were eliminated in the group stage. And in a stacked field in Adelaide 2, she came through qualifying before losing to last year’s Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins in the second round.

The Swiss southpaw hasn’t played well at Melbourne Park throughout her career. She won her first-ever main draw match at the Australian Open last year when she defeated Petra Martic in straight sets.

Dart Struggling for Momentum

Harriet Dart’s only win this season came in her first singles rubber at the United Cup when she beat Maddison Inglis in straight sets. Since then, it has been close but no cigar for the 26-year-old Londoner.

Dart led Spain’s Paula Badosa in the second tie of their group and seemed to outmatch Badosa in energy levels, but lost her way completely en route to a 7-6 6-7 1-6 loss.

And although Great Britain qualified for the Host City Finals, she lost resoundingly to USA’s top-ranked player Jessica Pegula 2-6 0-6 in what was her last competitive outing.

Dart played the Kooyong exhibition in the last week before the Australian Open, and lost to Linda Fruhvirtova in three sets. Can she rediscover her form in time for her first-round match?

Teichmann v Dart Prediction and Tip

Neither player has enjoyed playing tennis in this part of the continent judging by their overall record at the Australian Open. But Dart appears to be struggling the most with momentum right now. The experienced Teichmann should hold all the cards in this one.
