Caroline Garcia v Katherine Sebov Head to Head

Garcia and Sebov will be facing off for the first time in their careers.

Garcia 3-1 This Season

After the kind of season that Garcia had in 2022, it would be difficult to expect her to repeat something similar this year. But the manner in which she started off in the United Cup, it looked like there was hope for the world number four.

Garcia was a crushing winner over Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska in the first United Cup match before edging past Petra Martic in the second match. Unfortunately for Garcia, her team, France, failed to qualify for the next stage despite her performance.

The Frenchwoman then opted to take part at the Adelaide International 2 competition where she edged Katerina Siniakova in the second round following an opening bye. Against Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals, however, Garcia failed to win.

The good news for Garcia despite her excellent time in 2022 is she failed to win her opener at this tournament last year. What that implies is any wins at this tournament will be enough to see her add points to her tally.

On the other hand, given what transpired in the latter part of the season, Garcia would hope to collect as many points as she can here in Melbourne so as to not face the pressure of defending all those points.

She should not have a lot of trouble in her opener here.

Sebov Shocks Noskova to Make Main Draw

24-year-old Canadian Sebov has never played in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament before this. And coming into the first round of qualification it looked like she might not proceed beyond that here too as she took on Linda Noskova.

Now Noskova had played in Adelaide in the first week of the season and made it through the qualifiers there, before beating Daria Kasatkina, Victoria Azarenka and Ons Jabeur to reach the final of that tournament.

Coming up against Sebov, she was a 7/50 favourite to win it.

Sebov hadn’t been given the script though as she came through in three sets in an upset victory. And as if to prove this was no fluke, the Canadian then won her next two matches in straight sets to qualify for the main draw.

Can the world number 191 now make this form count against a player ranked fourth in the world? Highly doubtful. But she sure can give her opponent a bit of a scare.

Garcia v Sebov Prediction and Tip

Garcia’s only issue in this match could be down to the relative unknown nature of her opponent. She should still win this in two.
