Richard Gasquet rolled back the years in Auckland beating several notable players to win the trophy. He actually defeated Norrie with an unlikely comeback that even he probably didn’t see coming.
He was down 0-3 and 0-40 on his serve but remained persistent and battled back to win the match despite being literally on his last legs. It was utterly impressive to see as he continues to defy age and play some amazing tennis. It will also be a problem for his Australian Open efforts.
He was very tired in the final so it will be very important for him to play this match as late as he can. I do expect some fatigue from him regardless because you don’t recover that well at his age no matter what you do.
If he was fully rested I’d expect him to win this match comfortably. He beat Humbert at the Australian Open last year.

Humbert Makes 0-2 Start
Ugo Humbert did not start as well as his compatriot did with the French player going 0-2 so far. Tennis has been largely a struggle for Humbert for a while now so that’s not a surprise.
Both defeats came for Humbert at the same event because he first lost in the qualifiers and then lost once more in the main draw after getting in. It was surprising to see him struggle at the event because he won it in the past but it’s clear that he’s not playing with a lot of confidence right now.
His best bet is to try and make Gasquet work because he will be very tired after a long week in Auckland. He needs to serve well and prolong the match as long as possible.
It’s not really his way of playing because he tends to prefer matches and rallies on the short side but he need a win so he should try whatever works.

Gasquet is favoured to win this one and I would expect him to but the long week in Auckland really hurts him. Humbert can defeat him but he’ll need to play as well as he can.
