Djere v Bergs Head to Head

Djere leads 1-0 having won their only meeting in Gstaad in 2021.

Djere In Decent Form

Laslo Djere has made five previous appearances at the Australian Open, but the Serbian has lost all five of them. However, this year, he has a good chance of opening his account as he comes into the tournament in good form and also plays a qualifier first up.

Djere began the season at the Pune Open, where he won the opener against Alex Molcan but fell in the second round to Maximilian Marterer.

In his next tournament, in Auckland, last week, he knocked out Jaume Munar in the first round and then got a huge win over World no. 3 Casper Ruud in round 2.

His run ended in the quarterfinal, when he went down to Constant Lestienne despite taking the first set.

The 27-year-old Djere, who has been more successful on clay than on any other surface, had his best run on hard court last year, reaching the final of the Winston Salem Open. It was the first final for him outside clay at the tour level, but he could not add to his previous two career titles.

Coming into the tournament with a 3-2 record he will be hoping to get his first win at the Australian Open on Tuesday.

Bergs to Make Melbourne Debut

Zizou Bergs will be making his Australian Open debut on Tuesday. The Belgian, who has played in just one major before, will be eager to get his first win in a Grand Slam.

The World no. 131 has made it to the main draw through the qualifiers. Bergs defeated Jeremy Jin in the first qualifying round in straight sets and then needed three sets to dispatch Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera in the second qualifying round.

Bergs was the most impressive in the final qualifying round when he ousted Adrian Andreev 6-1, 6-2.

The 23-year-old, who reached a career-high ranking of 128 in September last year, played for Belgium at the United Cup earlier this month but lost both his singles matches to Bulgaria’s Dimitar Kuzmanov and Greece’s Stefanos Sakellaridis respectively.

Can he impress on debut?

Djere v Bergs Prediction and Tip

Djere is vastly experienced and has also looked good on hard courts over the last few months. Expect the Serb to win the match and advance to the next round.
