Sasnovich off to a Woeful Start in 2023

She had a direct entry at Adelaide’s first WTA tournament for the season and had to go enter the qualifiers of the second one the following week. Sasnovich lost in the first round at both competitions.

At the Adelaide International 1, Sasnovich was bundled out by Kaia Kanepi in three sets, and then in the qualifiers of that tournament the following week, the Belarusian player went down Anna Kalinskaya. Again, in a three-setter.

The good news for the 38th-ranked player is she likes her time in hardcourt competitions. She has won 11 ITF titles in her career and seven of them have come in hardcourt tournaments and even last year, she made it all the way to the final in a WTA tournament in Melbourne and then the fourth round at the Miami Open.

Can she take advantage of the inexperience of her 15-year-old opponent here?

Fruhvirtová Makes Maiden Grand Slam Entry

She is all of 15 years of age but Fruhvirtová is already makings waves at the senior circuit. Having turned professional in 2021, she was ranked outside the top 1000 on the WTA charts, but an unforgettable year in 2022 saw her ranking propel to a career-best of 128th in the world.

That was on the back of eight titles at the ITF level, all of which came in 2022.

That’s right, eight tournament victories in one calendar year.

That resulted in Fruhvirtová making it to the qualifiers of the Australian Open without needing a wildcard. Three successive wins bring here, to the main draw of a Grand Slam, for the first time ever in his career.

Can she now take an out of sorts Sasnovich down in this encounter?

Sasnovich v Fruhvirtová Prediction and Tip

While Fruhvirtová has shown the kind of form she has all of last year and then qualified here with three wins, her performances have been tuned in with clay. In hardcourt competitions though, it could be a different proposition.
