Laura Siegemund v Lucia Bronzetti Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 34 year old German, and the Italian, who is ten years younger.

Siegemund Better Known Now for Doubles

Siegemund is a Grand Slam winner, having lifted the 2020 US Open doubles trophy with partner Vera Zvonareva, and the Mixed Doubles at the same tournament four years earlier.

Singles-wise, her best performance was her quarter-final at the French Open in 2020, but she has never been further than the third round in Melbourne, and that was seven years ago.

The German has won two WTA titles, but these days is more of a doubles player, and, with Zvonareva again, she won the Miami Open last year.

Her season began at the United Cup where she was playing for Germany, but she lost both her matches, to Jessica Pegula and Petra Kvitova, both in straight sets.

She had better fortune in the first round of Hobart, coming from a set down to beat the Czech player Tereza Martincova. But then she lost another three set battle to the American Bernarda Pera.

Bronzetti Aiming for Melbourne Second Round Again

Bronzetti made her Grand Slam debut in Melbourne last year as a qualifier, and went on to beat Varvara Gracheva, before losing to then the world number one Ashleigh Barty.

That remains the only time she has won a Grand Slam match. She made the first round of the three other majors last year, but was beaten in the first round each time.

The highlight of her season probably came in Miami, which she entered via the Lucky Loser route, and where she subsequently went on to reach the fourth round, which helped her reach her highest career ranking to date.

Like Siegemund, her year began with the United Cup, where she won both her matches in the group stages, but could not help her country advance beyond the play-offs.

Her campaign in Hobart did not last long – beaten in straight sets by Anna Blinkova in the opening round.

Siegemund v Bronzetti Prediction and Tip

Bronzetti is the higher ranked player, and with the German more concentrating on doubles these days, will be hopeful of reaching the next round in Melbourne for a second successive year.
