Diane Parry arrived in Melbourne with a 2-2 record which is fairly solid for a player that does her best on clay and not hard courts.
The four matches she played showed her level to be okay but nothing special. She’ll need to improve a bit if she hopes to make any kind of buzz in Melbourne. Parry posted an 11-12 record on hard courts and she didn’t play that much on the surface growing up.
She has some solid weapons so technically she should develop into a solid player on hard courts. Her biggest problem is that her game overall is quite weak to very aggressive players, especially on hard courts.
She finds ways around that on clay courts but struggles to do so on hard courts, at least so far in her career. This is a matchup I think she’ll keep close at least.

Townsend Making A Comeback
Taylor Townsend finished the past year on a high note and is pretty close to making a return to the top 100. A good result in Melbourne could do the trick however she arrives in the city with two defeats in two matches.
Despite the losses her level has been pretty okay overall as she was able to win a set against Amanda Anisimova. She lost the other match in straight sets but played pretty well overall. She was always pretty good on hard courts, especially with the strong finish to the year.
The record overall was 14-5 on hard courts but the wins came over players that are not on the level she will pay moving forward.
She hasn’t played that well in Australia in the past few years so this is a tricky one for her but she is favoured at the moment.
Parry v Townsend Prediction and Tip
It’s a hard one to predict because Parry has not done well on hard courts in the past and certainly not as well as Townsend but I feel like she might surprise here.
