Sinner Disposes off Edmund with Ease
Sinner is one of the most talented young players around on the circuit and while he had fallen in the quarterfinal stage at the Adelaide International in the first week of the season, he was a huge favourite going into this opener against Kyle Edmund.
After all, Edmund has himself not played a lot of tennis in recent times because of his fitness concerns.
Not too many would have expected the kind of rout that followed though. Sinner was on court for less than two hours as he carved out a 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 victory over his British opponent and moved into the second round of the Australian Open for the third time in his career.
A quarterfinalist last season, Sinner held his serve for all of the first and second sets, and it was as he looked to serve for a 5-1 lead in the third set that the Italian finally dropped his serve.
He missed five match-points before clinching the encounter off the sixth. He will be a huge favourite coming into the second round too.

Etcheverry Upsets Barrere
Gregoire Barrere was a favourite going into his first round match against Etcheverry and for a while it looked like he was going to live up to that tag too.
Etcheverry, however, came back from a set down to win their opening round match in nearly three hours and sealed his Sinner meeting.
The Argentine won 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 as he clawed back from losing the first set to break his opponent once apiece in sets two and three. In fact, Etcheverry had 10 break-points in the third set, of which he converted just one which led to him taking a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth, the pair exchanged a break of serves to take them to 4-4 but it was Etcheverrey’s experience which took him over the line as he broke Barrere once more in the ninth game.
Etcheverry had earlier made it through to the first round at the Adelaide International with a couple of qualifying wins but lost to Jason Kubler in the first round there. This will be the first time he will take to court for a second round match at a Grand Slam.
Sinner v Etcheverry Prediction and Tip
