Tsitsipas Fights Past Halys
He won it in straight sets alright but there were times during Tsitsipas’ first round encounter that he needed to dig deep in order to get past Quentin Halys.
In the end, Tsitsipas overcame the world number 61 Halys 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (6) to seal his second round berth. In doing so, Tsitsipas won his fifth successive match of the season after having won four United Cup singles matches.
With victories over trickier opponents already this season – Grigor Dimitrov, David Goffin, Borna Coric and Matteo Berrettini being the four – he was expected to come through without too much trouble against Halys. And for the first two sets it looked like that too before he was forced to mount a fightback.
Tsitsipas was broken twice to go 4-2 down in the third set before he broke back, but then faced four set-points on his own serve in the 12th game.
In the tie-breaker that followed, the Greek number one was down 1-4 at one stage and again 4-5 before clinching it off his second match-point.
He will hope for an easier second round match-up against the Aussie wildcard.

Hijikata Mounts Stunning Comeback against Hanfmann
Hijikata had played in just one Grand Slam main draw match before this and he had taken a set off Rafael Nadal in that match. In his opener here, the 169th-ranked player looked like he was headed out in straight sets to Yannick Hanfmann.
But a fighting performance from the Aussie took him from two sets down to defeat his German opponent and make it to the second round.
He won 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in a match lasting nearly four and a half hours, with the players sharing six breaks of serves. It was the fourth set tie-breaker that made the difference for the Aussie who then broke his opponent in the sixth game of the final set before squeaking past him off his third match-point.
Now Tsitsipas will be a different kettle of fish altogether for Hijikata but the fight he showed in his opener will go a long way in keeping him in the contest against the Greek.
Tsitsipas v Hijikata Prediction and Tip
While Tsitsipas is 1/16 to win this, he could be in for a contest that might see Hijikata push him in at least one of the sets. A straight-set win for Tsitsipas is at 4/6 but we will probably avoid that here. Over 30.5 games looks likely.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 30.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
- High Risk Tip: Tsitsipas to win AND Both players to win a set: 7/5 (Click Here to Bet with 888Sport)
