Ostapenko Disposes off Yastremska
While the start to her season hasn’t been the best, it did not take Ostapenko a long time to get the better of Dayana Yastremska in her opening round encounter here.
The world number 17 dished out a 6-4, 6-2 loss for Yastremska in a match lasting an hour and 12 minutes. Ostapenko won 79% of her first serve points and faced just one break-point in the encounter that she easily saved in the end.
Ostapenko, who was coming off a first round defeat to Anna Kalinskaya in Adelaide, got herself three opportunities to break her opponent and did so every single time.
The question for Ostapenko now is if she can make it to the third round here for the fourth time in her career.

Bondar in a Three-Set Tussle with Bogdan
It took Bondar three sets alright but she managed to come through in the end and seal her second round place at the Australian Open for the first time in her career.
The 25-year-old, who was once ranked 50th in the world, defeated Ana Bogdan 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 in a tick over two hours to proceed to round two.
While both did not have a great percentage of points they won with their first serve, it was Bondar’s better second serving that helped her find her edge over her opponent. 38 winners and eight aces also helped in no small way.
Having not started the season off well – she failed to qualify for the main draw of both the WTA events she played in – Bondar will now hope to make life on court very difficult for her Latvian opponent. Can she win a set here?
