Camila Giorgi v Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Head to Head

There has been one previous face-off between these two players and that came in 2015 in Katowice. Schmiedlova had won that final in straight sets to win the title.

Giorgi Keeps Off-Court Distractions Out

Giorgi has had some off the court distractions as investigations continue over alleged fake vaccination documentation she might have received to enter some tennis tournaments. But till such time as the results of that investigations are out, Giorgi will hope she can find ways to keep winning on court.

The world number 70 found a way to do just that in her opener here, but more vitally in a way that surprised quite a few fans.

Facing Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, a former Grand Slam runner-up in her opener, Giorgi was expected to be given a bit of a fight but ended up with an easy passage to the second round. Giorgi won 6-0, 6-1 in a mere 57 minutes to march through for the sixth time in a row at the Australian Open.

Interestingly, the only time Giorgi did lose a game was off her own serve, as the two players exchanged breaks in the second and third games of the second set. From there on, it was Giorgi who strode to a win without too many issues.

And with a player ranked outside the top 100 awaiting in the second, Giorgi will fancy her chances again.

Qualifier Schmiedlova Sends Trevisan Packing

Martina Trevisan is a clay-courter and has generally struggled on other surfaces. But with the Italian having featured in the United Cup, and Schmiedlova enduring a poor form streak and losing her Canberra ITF competition first round match to go with that, it looked like Trevisan had a decent chance going through.

In the end it turned out to be a cakewalk for Schmiedlova, who crashed into the Trevisan party with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. The match lasted a mere 73 minutes.

What was interesting to note was there were seven break-points on show during the encounter and at each of those, a break was obtained. Schmiedlova got five of those while dropping her serve twice in the first set where the two exchanged four breaks of serves to take them to 3-2.

Schmiedlova hasn’t dropped a set across her four matches so far including the qualifiers and comes into this encounter with a lot of confidence. Can she break the Giorgi game down here?

Giorgi v Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip

While Giorgi is a favourite here, take nothing away from the manner in which Schmiedlova has played all of this tournament. We could end up seeing an exciting one which goes to a third set.
