Donna Vekic v Nuria Párrizas Díaz Head to Head

Vekic and Diaz have never played each other in a competitive match before this.

Vekic Routs Seeded Samsonova

The perceived difference in the quality of the two players’ tennis can be seen from the odds on offer for their respective wins and for Vekic to start off a 2/1 underdog against Liudmilla Samsonova spoke volumes about that exact difference.

That Vekic won the match is stunning enough but for her to do that in the manner that she did underlines how difficult predicting women’s tennis results are.

Vekic stormed into the third round of the competition with her fifth successive win of the year, needing only 68 minutes to rout her Russian opponent 6-3, 6-0. The Croat faced no break-points in the entire contest, while got better of her opponent’s serve on four separate occasions.

Rather stunningly, Vekic won 92% of her first serve points in the match with Samsonova’s 27 unforced errors going some way in helping her cause.

Can she now equal her best ever showing at the Australian Open having reached the fourth round here in 2021?

Back to Back Upsets for Párrizas Díaz

In the first round Parrizas Diaz was drawn to face the world number 14 Beatriz Haddad Maia and was a whopping 18/5 underdog coming into the encounter. She won it in straight sets.

And for the second time in a row, Parrizas Diaz was the second favourite going into the contest, with bookmakers offering 8/5 for her win over Anastasia Potapova. Again, she wasted no time in getting past her Russian opponent to seal her place in the third round.

Parrizas Diaz was on court for a mere 73 minutes in sending Potapova on her way, winning 6-3, 6-2. Broken twice in the first set, Parrizas Diaz recovered to carve out three breaks of serve and win the set before getting a lot more clinical on serve in the second.

She faced just one break-point in the second set and saved it while getting past Potapova’s serve on two occasions to register the victory.

Can Parrizas Diaz make it three shock wins in a row?

Vekic v Párrizas Díaz Prediction and Tip

Vekic is 1/2 to win this and we will have to back her here as she returns to full fitness and form. Counting her victories at the Kooyong Exhibition tournament, Vekic is on a seven-match winning streak and we think an eighth is on her way.
