Karolina Pliskova v Varvara Gracheva Head to Head

There have been no previous meetings between Pliskova and Gracheva before this.

Pliskova Hammers Putintseva in Second Round

Not too many had given Pliskova a lot of hope coming into this year’s Australian Open after she was knocked out in the first round at both, the Adelaide International 1 and Adelaide International 2.

Fortunately for the Czech, she is still a seeded player despite her slide in the rankings and that has prevented her from playing any of the other seeds in the competition so far.

That being said, Pliskova’s form has been so underwhelming, she could have had her issues against Yulia Putintseva, her second round opponent. And for a while in the second set it did look like things could turn around drastically but Pliskova took control and carved out a 6-0, 7-5 win in an hour and 18 minutes.

Pliskova slammed eight aces and had 25 winners to her name as she overcame a break of serve in the second set to seal her third round place.

She had earlier won a lopsided first round encounter against Xiyu Wang and will now be gunning for a round four place against a player who has never made it past this stage at a Grand Slam.

Gracheva Makes Maiden Australian Open Third Round Entry

Four times before this year’s Australian Open, Gracheva had made the third round at Grand Slams but never at the Australian Open. Now, with a second round win over Lucrezia Stefanini, Gracheva has made it to the round of 32 at three out of the four Slams.

And she did that in straight sets too, winning 6-3, 6-1 in an hour and 20 minutes.

In a match filled with breaks of serves, Gracheva lost her serve three times but inflicted that same pain on her opponent on seven different occasions.

What stood out for Gracheva was the 23 winners she hit past her opponent while only enduring 15 unforced errors. More vitally, it was her 6-1, 6-1 rout of one of the pre-tournament dark horses, Daria Kasatkina that would have given her the confidence too and she will now hope she can repeat that against Pliskova too.

Pliskova v Gracheva Prediction and Tip

Pliskova is 2/7 to win this but we reckon Gracheva has the momentum behind her and can take a set off her opponent.
