Stefanos Tsitsipas v Jannik Sinner Head to Head

There have been five previous meetings between these two and Tsitsipas has won four of them. Four of these came on clay where the Greek is 3-1 ahead while in their only hardcourt match, Tsitsipas was a straight-set winner. Interestingly, that came in the quarterfinal stage of the Australian Open last season.

Tsitsipas Makes it Seven Wins in a Row

Tsitsipas and Tallon Griekspoor had both entered their third round match on the back of a six-match winning streak in the season.

The Greek number one was the obvious favourite here but with Griekspoor having shown what he is capable of, with a title win at Pune, there were chances of this match going deep. Four sets if not five.

That’s not what happened though. Tsitsipas faced some difficulties in the second set, sure, but still managed to up the ante and carve out a 6-2, 7-6 (5), 6-3 win in two hours and eight minutes.

Tsitsipas was so dominant, he faced just one break-point in the entire match and saved it, while breaking Griekspoor three times. He won 81% of his first serve points on the back of 32 winners and seven aces in the encounter.

It’s his first serve percentage that will make Tsitsipas a player to beat, having won 81% of those across all his first three matches so far.

Sinner Nearly Stumbles against Fucsovics

Having routed both his first two opponents here, Kyle Edmund and Tomas Etcheverry, Sinner was a heavy favourite coming into his third round opponent Marton Fucsovics. In the first sets, however, he played anything like that.

Sinner’s second serve, especially, was at the target of Fucsovics’ racquet as he won just 37% of those points and lost his serve a whopping four times.

It took him to go two sets down in the match before Sinner finally shrugged things off and started to play like the player he is. He rattled off five straight games in the third set, and then overcame a break of serve early in the fourth set to win six games in a row to level the proceedings.

By this time Fucsovics’ game had fallen away and in the fifth set, he won just four points on his own serve and five on his opponent’s. Sinner came through 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 in three hours and 36 minutes to seal his place in the fourth round.

Can he use his excellent return to disrupt the Tsitsipas serve?

Tsitsipas v Sinner Prediction and Tips

Sinner is one of the better returners in the game but he is up against a player who has won 81% of his first serve points in this tournament. This makes it a difficult match-up which we think could go in favour of Tsitsipas as he continues his excellent form and makes it eight wins in a row.
