Gauff Reaches Second Week for the Second time
Coco Gauff is in the fourth round of the Australian Open for the second time after dismissing Bernarda Pera 6-3 6-2 in their all-American clash on Friday.
Gauff, who is one of the contenders for the title this fortnight, is yet to drop a set in three matches. And the most games she has lost came in the second round when she defeated Emma Raducanu 6-3 7-6.
But despite the perfunctory scoreline against Pera, Gauff was made to put in the hard yards as the lefty nullified 12 of 16 break points that the 18-year-old manufactured. But the seventh seed found the extra gear to overpower Pera from the baseline and utilized her serve in the critical moments to get the win.
Gauff hit 23 winners and saved four of five break points on her own serve to progress.
Coco Gauff’s Road to Fourth Round
- Gauff defeated Katerina Siniakova 6-1 6-4 in the first round.
- Gauff defeated Emma Raducanu 6-3 7-6 in the second round.
- Gauff defeated Bernarda Pera 6-3 6-2 in the third round.

Maiden Fourth-Round Appearance for Ostapenko
Entering each of her opening three matches Down Under as the higher-ranked player, Jelena Ostapenko made it count. The Latvian has blasted her way into the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time, where her first acid test will come to fruition when she faces Coco Gauff.
Ostapenko advanced into the second week by virtue of a straights sets demolition of World No. 95 Kateryna Baindl. The 17th seed needed just 66 minutes to win 6-3 6-0.
Despite landing an unhealthy 54% first serves, she won 23 of 26 points behind her first delivery. But with 27 unforced errors including six double faults, it is not the kind of statistic that will favor her against a high-quality returner like Gauff.
The former Roland Garros champion has dropped one set en route to her maiden fourth-round appearance at the Australian Open, and will be looking to avenge the Linz final defeat from 2019 when she takes on the American teenager.
Jelena Ostapenko’s Road to Fourth Round

- Ostapenko defeated Anna Bondar 7-6 5-7 6-0 in the second round.
