Felix Auger-Aliassime v Jiri Lehecka Head to Head

Auger-Aliassime and Lehecka haven’t faced off in a competitive match before this.

Auger-Aliassime Extended to Beyond Three Again (by Cerundolo This Time)

Auger-Aliassime hasn’t been making things easy for himself in this year’s Australian Open and for the third match in a row, he failed to carve out a straight-set win.

The Canadian number one, who needed four sets against Vasek Pospisil and was then stretched to five by Alex Molcan, clinched a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory against clay-court specialist Francisco Cerundolo in round three. The match lasted two hours and 38 minutes.

Nine aces, 38 winners and a first serve win percentage of 85% punctuated his effort but where he struggled was with the second serve as he managed to win just 45% of those points.

The good news for Auger-Aliassime was that other than the set he lost, he looked quite solid throughout the encounter. In fact in the fourth, Auger-Aliassime dropped just six points in five games on his serve while earning eight break-points.

The worrying thing is the ability to close out because again, the world number seven missed seven of those eight chances.

Can he now match up to his effort from the previous season where Auger-Aliassime had reached the quarterfinal in this tournament? He faces a surprise opponent up next.

Lehecka Stuns Norrie

2022 was the first season in which Lehecka managed to qualify for a Grand Slam. He was ranked 143rd in the world at the start of that season and ensured a first round appearance at each of the four majors, in turn also breaking into the top 100 thanks to a semifinal appearance at Rotterdam.

This year, he started off with a shock with over Alexander Zverev but that could have been put down to the German’s fitness struggles. A second round exit at the Auckland Open at the hands of Cameron Norrie wasn’t surprising at all but he had taken the fight to his opponent there too.

At the Australian Open this year, he won his first ever match at a Grand Slam when he shocked the 7/20 favourite Borna Coric in the first round but stunningly, in staight sets. A four-set win over Christopher Eubanks seemed more par for the course but he then ran in Norrie again.

Norrie, one of the contenders to go deep into Grand Slams this year – probably even make the final if the draw is kind – was 3/10 to win this.

A hard-fought first set tie-breaker went in the Brit’s favour and a shade under two hours into the contest, Lehecka was two sets to one down. The match looked to be settling in Norrie’s favour.

Lehecka wasn’t done though. He broke early to go 4-1 up and wrapped up the equaliser soon after and then did the same same to take a 4-1 lead in the final set. Norrie did manage to clinch one break back but Lehecka lost just one point in the next two service games to finish things off.

Auger-Aliassime v Lehecka Prediction and Tips

Interestingly, Lehecka said after his Norrie win that his only tactic from having lost to Norrie in Auckland was to never give up till the very end. That’s exactly what he will want to do against Auger-Aliassime too who has a strong personality on coach and can dominate from the get go. Expecting an Auger-Aliassime win despite his form issues but Lehecka can be expected to gran a set here.
