Roberto Bautista Agut v Tommy Paul Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Bautista Agut leads the head to head 3-1. Paul’s only win came in their last meeting at the Paris Masters last season.

Bautista Agut Scrapes Past the Fighting Murray

Andy Murray had played back to back five-setters heading into his third round match against Bautista Agut and that looked to have worked in favour of the Spaniard. An exhausted Murray did put up a fight but it proved to be one battle too many for the Brit.

Bautista Agut came through in three and a half hours, winning 6-1, 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-4 to enter the fourth round of this competition for the first time since 2019.

The 34-year-old, who had come into this competition on the back of a finals appearance at the Adelaide International, notched up his sixth wins in seven matches with six breaks of serves to his name.

One of those six came in the third game of the fourth set with Murray serving for a 3-0 lead – that was crucial in stemming the flow of momentum in his opponent’s favour. He broke Murray once more to clinch the encounter.

The Spaniard will now be up against the inexperienced but highly talented Paul for a place in the last eight.

Paul Eases Past Brooksby

Paul was a favourite coming into his third round match, especially because of his experience at this level as compared to his opponent Jenson Brooksby. And he played exactly like how he was expected to clinch a straight-set win.

In a match lasting a touch over two hours, Paul defeated Brooksby 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 with his first serve percentage of 80 helping him tide over his opponent. He faced four break-points in the encounter, all of which he saved which pulling Brooksby’s serve down five times.

This victory follows Paul’s wins over Jan-Lennard Struff and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first two rounds, the latter of which needed five sets.

A fourth round place is also a new territory for Paul, who has never made it this far at this tournament and just once earlier in any other major. Can he use his youth to trump his opponent’s experience?

Bautista Agut v Paul Prediction and Tips

Not much to choose between the two but Paul starts off a 8/9 favourite to win this as compared to 10/11 for Bautista Agut’s victory. We could see the match go into the fourth set for starters.
