Djokovic Grinds Out Another Win
It’s not ideal circumstances for Novak Djokovic from a physical standpoint, but he produced another gutsy win under pressure. The Serbian star defeated Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 6-3 6-4 – perhaps the most brutal straight sets he has played in.
Djokovic saved three set points in a chaotic first set, while he spurned four of his own, before concerting on his fifth set point to win the set that took the best part of 80 minutes.
Soon after, Djokovic took a medical timeout as he continued treatment of the hamstring that has bothered him since the start of the tournament. Although his movement was only partially affected, he still managed to establish a two-sets-to-love lead by taking the fourth break point of the second set.
And despite receiving another medical timeout at 4-1 in the third set, the match was well and truly beyond Dimitrov’s reach who retrieved only one of the breaks back to lose to Djokovic for the tenth time.

De Minaur, Australia’s Last Man Standing
Alex De Minaur will be the lone Australian in the second week of the men’s singles draw following Alexei Popyrin’s defeat to Ben Shelton. That will earn De Minaur a vociferous reception when he takes on nine-time champion Djokovic.
De Minaur was probably Australia’s best hope of making it to this stage following Nick Kyrgios’ late withdrawal. He had a very kind draw in the opening three rounds, just like last year, and he’s now emulated his best showing. But just like in 2022, his fourth-round opponent is a Top 20 player which doesn’t bode well for a man they the Demon in these parts.
The 23-year-old made light work of France’s Benjamin Bonzi, who secured a major upset in the previous round by eliminating Pablo Carreno Busta. De Minaur eked out a tight first set in a tiebreak, he broke the Frenchman seven times in the match to progress in two hours.
The Aussie has now won four of his five matches in 2023, will he record the biggest of them all on Monday with the eyes of the nation fixated on him?
