There have been two previous meetings between these two players including on at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Both were won by Sabalenka in straight sets.

Sabalenka Continues to Make Merry
When Sabalenka began her 2023 season in the first week of January she had been drawn to face Liudmilla Samsonova in her second round match at the Adelaide International following an opening bye.
She looked rusty in that encounter but found a way to get past her opponent over two tie-breakers.
Since then Sabalenka has won a further eight more matches and not lost a set in any of them. What more, in the 16 sets she has played in them, Sabalenka has been taken to a tie-breaker in only one of them and that came in the final in Adelaide.
Nine matches played this season in all and Sabalenka has nine straight-set wins in a row.
The last of those came against Donna Vekic in a match that lasted an hour and 51 minutes but still saw her come through 6-3, 6-2. It was the number of deuces in many of the games that pushed the encounter that long but Sabalenka still managed to find a way to save 12 of the 14 break-points she faced.
In turn, the Belarusian player broke her opponent five times in the encounter before winning it off her first match-point.
What’s interesting to note is for a player as consistent as Sabalenka has been over the years and having also touched the world number two at one point last year, she has never made a Grand Slam final before. This could well be her best chance.

Linette Dispels Pliskova to Continue Fairy-Tale Run
Other than her first round win at this year’s Australian Open over Mayar Sherif, Linette has gone into every match in this tournament as a second-favourite.
It started with a second round meeting with Anett Kontaveit where she dropped a set before turning the screws on her opponent, before surprising Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third.
Her biggest win came against the world number four Caroline Garcia in the fourth round where she was 21/10 underdog and that helped her set a meeting with former world number one Karolina Pliskova.
Pliskova herself had had a solid run following on from an underwhelming season of tennis that had seen her drop to 31st in the world but she was a favourite here. Not that it mattered to Linette again, as she came through 6-3, 7-5 to make it to her first Grand Slam semifinal.
Just like she had entered the fourth round of a major for the first time this year. And same with quarterfinals too!
Linette was broken in the first game of the opening set but from there on she never lost her serve. In turn she broke Pliskova three more times to clinch her semifinal and while she will know Sabalenka’s performances have been like no other in this tournament so far, she will dream.
Just like she would have before each of her previous four wins.
Sabalenka v Linette Prediction and Tips
Sabalenka is now a title-winning favourite and while the likes of Elena Rybakina and Victoria Azarenka can stop her on a good day, it looks like she has the confidence, rhythm and the momentum going her way. Which is also why it’s tough to see Linette stop her here.
