Dan Evans v Nicolas Mejia Head to Head

Evans and Mejia haven’t faced off in a competitive match before this.

Evans Coming off Australian Open Third Round

Evans has managed to remain in the top 30 of the ATP Rankings but he wouldn’t be very chuffed with the start that he has made to the season.

Sure, the Brit did make it to the third round of the Australian Open but the manner of his defeat to Andrey Rublev – he won just nine games – would raises questions about his form.

As was the case when he lost three of the first four matches he played this season. Evans’ only win at the United Cup came against Albert Ramos-Vinolas while he succumbed Jason Kubler, Frances Tiafoe and Mackenzie McDonald in the other three.

The last of those three defeats came in the first round of the Adelaide International 2 and again, Evans had failed to win a set despite starting out a 1/2 favourite there.

Things aren’t the best for Evans on clay either with the Brit registering a 14-25 career win-loss record on the ATP circuit on this surface.

Mejia Happy Playing on Clay

Mejia has never been ranked in the top 230 in the world but this is the Davis Cup and he will be playing at home. And on a surface he loves and his opponent doesn’t quite.

While Mejia has a 1-1 record on clay at the highest level, he has featured in 195 matches on this surface on the Futures and Challenger circuit. And won 108 of them.

Even this year, the Colombian 22-year-old made the second round at two Challenger tournaments played at South American clay courts and that should give him some confidence coming into this.

While on paper Mejia might not have too much on Evans, he might have a bit of an advantage given the conditions. Can he convert that into a shock win?

Evans v Mejia Prediction and Tip

Evans is 1/5 to win this and while he should do that, we reckon Mejia has it in him to put up a bit of a fight on clay. Might even see a third set.
