John Isner v Sam Querrey Head to Head

The two players have met each other a total of seven times on the ATP Tour. In that, Querrey has won five times and presently leads the American No. 1 with a 5-2 lead. In fact, Querrey has won four of their last five meetings since 2010.

They last met in the Cincinnati Masters last year, where the No. 57 ranked Sam defeated Isner in three sets.

Isner Looking to Build on His Recent Form

The month of February has proven to be quite great for Isner, who is currently the World No. 9. He played in a couple of American events in New York and Delray Beach, and on both the occasions, he reached the semifinal.

However, he failed to go the distance, losing respectively to Rilley Opelka and Daniel Evans. In fact, it is the second time this year that Isner lost to Opelka. He was defeated by the same player in the first round of the Australian Open, becoming one of the first seeds to bite the dust.

Isner is a player who fares very well on the American circuit. His last six titles have come in the United States, most notable of which is the Miami Masters. He has also won the Atlanta Open a record five times so far, winning it back to back in 2017 and 2018.

With two major tournaments right around the corner – Indian Wells and Miami, it will be interesting to see how Isner fares against his American adversary. He is likely to have some troubles, especially considering that he isn’t among the consistent player on the circuit.

Earlier this year, he lost to yet another American – Taylor Fritz – in his opening match in Auckland.

Can Querrey Repeat His 2017 Antics?

Sam Querrey has won a total of 10 singles titles on the tour. The most notable of this is the Mexican Open itself that he won in 2017 after defeating Rafael Nadal in the final. It was a dream run for Querrey who moved on to deliver one of the most memorable performances of his career.

Since then, he has only won the Los Cabos Open – a title that came in the very same year.

As for his run this year, he has had a rather similar spell to Isner’s, except that he hasn’t been that active. For instance, he lost early in the Australian Open too, at the hands of Pierre-Hugues Herbert. He then played in New York, competing in the opposite half as that of Isner’s.

However, things didn’t pan out for Querrey and he lost to the Canadian player Brayden Schnur in the semis. Considering his campaign in Acapulco, he started it with a straight-set win over the lucky loser Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the first round.

John Isner v Sam Querrey Predictions & Tips

This match will be, without a doubt, an interesting affair. On one hand, Querrey leads Isner in the head to head tally while on the other hand, the third seed has the momentum and experience to win here. This fixture can very well go either way and is too close to call. It wouldn’t be surprising if this goes to three sets.
