Donna Vekić v Johnna Konta Head to Head
The two women have met five times before, although three of those meetings have come on the grass of Nottingham and Wimbledon. Currently, Konta leads their mini-series by three matches to two. In terms of hard court matches (like Mexico), they are even to date, with Konta winning in Cincinnati in 2016, and Vekić winning their last encounter in Tokyo last year in straight sets.
Vekić, Now Eyeing the Title
Having seen off Christina McHale of the United States in the last round, Vekić has found the tournament in Acapulco opening up to her. That is because while she was beating McHale, the number one seed Sloane Stephens was being beaten by Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia.
With fourth seed Mihaela Buzãmescu also crashing out, and Danielle Collins, seeded two here already eliminated, she finds herself the highest ranked player in the competition, and now favourite to win the tournament.

Konta, Looking to Regain Form
For former world number 4 Konta, the last two years have been difficult as she has struggled for form and confidence, tumbling down the rankings in consequence, with several changes of coach not helping.
She is now longing to regain the level of performance that saw her claim three senior WTA titles, and will have been boosted by her recent Federation Cup heroics where she helped Britain into the World Group play-off.
It has been plain sailing in Mexico so far this week, with straight set wins over Laura Siegemund of Germany and Varvara Flink of Russia, but Vekić is a step-up in class.
Vekić v Konta Predictions & Tips
Vekić will start favourite for this match, because she is the player in form. She has already reached one final this year in St. Petersburg, and will believe she can go one better in Acapulco and claim the title.
Konta has a chance if she can find the form that made her one of the top players in the world. That is a big “if” though.
Tip: Vekic to win three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
