Coco Gauff v Petra Kvitova Head to Head

This is going to be a first meeting between the two.

Gauff Is 8-1 in 2023

World no. 6 Coco Gauff is the fourth seed in the tournament and therefore the American has received a first round bye. She will begin her campaign in the round of 16 on Wednesday.

Gauff got her 2023 campaign off to a flying start, going 8-1 in her first two tournaments. The 18-year-old will be hoping to keep the momentum going in Doha.

Gauff began the season in Auckland where she defeated Rebeka Masarova in the final to claim her third WTA title and a first of the season. She then carried that form to the Australian Open and matched her previous best in the tournament, by winning the first three rounds in straight sets. But she was stunned in the round of 16 by Jelena Ostapenko. That was Gauff’s first defeat of the year and she will be playing in Qatar for the first time since that loss.

Can she return to winning ways?

There are huge expectation from last year’s French Open finalist. She was also a quarterfinalist on her Doha debut last year and will be looking to return to the last eight with a win over Kvitova.

Kvitova Tops Zhang

Two-time Qatar champion began yet another campaign on a solid note as the lefty knocked out China’s Zhang Shuai 7-5, 6-2 in an hour and 14 minutes.

The Czech player served eight aces and won 84% points on her first serve. She also saved half of the four break points that she faced and capitalised on 5 of 11 breaking opportunities to take down the world no. 22, who lost her third match in a row.

The world no. 13 improved to 6-2 in 2023 following the first round win. She had won both her matches at the United Cup, was a quarterfinalist in Adelaide-2 and lost in the second round of the Australian Open.

She will be looking to reach the last eight in Qatar for a seventh time in her career. After losing in the quarterfinals in 2013, 2014 and 2015, she finally won the title in 2018, finished runner-up in 2020 and won the title again in 2021.

Last year, the 29-time tour-level champion was beaten in the second round. How far can she go this year?

Gauff v Kvitova Prediction and Tip

Kvitova has an exceptional record in Doha and will be looking to use all her experience against the 18-year-old on Wednesday. But Gauff’s the fourth seed for a reason. She has been playing terrific tennis over the last one year, which makes her one of the favourites in the tournament. She will hold a slight edge over the Czech in the round of 16 contest.
