Daniil Medvedev v Felix Auger-Aliassime Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Medvedev has won every single time. All four matches came on outdoor hardcourt surfaces, with the last of these meetings played at the Australian Open last year.

Auger-Aliassime Sharp in Barrere Win

Auger-Aliassime lost his focus just once in the entire second round match against Gregoire Barrere and that caused him to lose his serve. It came in the ninth game of the opening set, and Barrere was able to prevent the Canadian number one from serving out the set at 5-3 as a result of that.

Unfortunately for the Frenchman, Auger-Aliassime recovered quickly enough to break him in the very next game to scoop up the set.

And in the second, Auger-Aliassime saved one break-point and then broke Barrere to love in the eight game to set himself to serve for the match. He did so with aplomb.

This follows Auger-Aliassime’s straight-set win over Lorenzo Sonego in the first round as he looks to improve on the slow start that he had made to the season otherwise.

Medvedev Registers Quick Win over van de Zandschulp

After making a slow start in this competition as he lost the opening set to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round, Medvedev has found his rhythm rather well. In the four sets that have followed including a couple in the second round, Medvedev has dropped just two games apiece.

Medvedev, who had registered a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Davidovich Fokina, routed Botic van de Zandschulp 6-2, 6-2 in a mere hour and 26 minutes to reach the quarterfinal.

Interestingly, Medvedev slammed only six aces and won 68% of his service points but still managed to win all his service games without getting broken. He earned 16 break-points and converted four of them.

What now needs to be seen is if Medvedev can up the ante against a player who relishes playing on these surfaces and has an enviable record on them. Especially given how Medvedev’s season has gone so far with just a semifinal at the Adelaide International and a third round exit at the Australian Open.

Medvedev v Auger-Aliassime Prediction and Tip

There isn’t much to choose between these two but on current form and past record on such surfaces we will have to give Auger-Aliassime the edge.
