Iga Swiatek v Jessica Pegula Head to Head

These two have had six meetings between them and Swiatek leads 4-2. Pegula had won the first time they faced off at the 2019 Washington Open before Swiatek clinched the next four matches in a row.

Their last meeting came at the United Cup earlier this year and it was Pegula who came through in straight sets in that one.

Pegula Overcomes Sakkari

It took Pegula three sets and just over two hours to get past Maria Sakkari in her semifinal but in the end she did make it to her sixth career final on the WTA circuit.

Pegula won 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in a match where neither player managed to hold her serve with any kind of conviction. Sakkari faced 17 break-points over the three sets, Pegula herself was at the receiving end of 14.

And it did not stop at break-points alone, as Pegula broke Sakkari nine times in the encounter while losing her own serve on five occasions. In fact in the final set, there were just two holds from the seven games – both to Pegula – while the service was dropped five times.

The American number one had earlier earned a first round bye before getting past Jelena Ostapenko and Beatriz Haddad Maia in the next two rounds.

Can she now make it two in a row against Swiatek after having defeated her at the United Cup as well?

Swiatek Crushes Kudermetova

Here’s what Swiatek’s record in this tournament looks like right now. Two matches played, 24 games won, two games lost. This includes her semifinal victory over Veronika Kudermetova 6-0, 6-1 as well.

And she has made it to the final.

With Swiatek taking 54 minutes to defeat Danielle Collins, 57 minutes to overcome Kudermetova other than getting an opening bye and a quarterfinal walkover from the exhausted Belinda Bencic, it would probably rank as one of the shortest time a player has taken to get to the final of a tournament.

That’s nearly 10 minutes short of two hours to get there.

To give you a perspective, Pegula took more time than that to win her semifinal. So far as being fresh is concerned, Swiatek would be like the daisies, and that could be bit of a factor in the title-decider too.

Swiatek v Pegula Prediction and Tip

The kind of form that Swiatek has shown in this tournament, albeit in the two matches she has played, it is very difficult to punt against her despite Pegula’s recent win over the world number one. At best Pegula could win a set.
