Daniil Medvedev v Jannik Sinner Head to Head

There have been four previous meetings between these two and Medvedev has won every single time. Interestingly all four of their previous meetings have come on indoor hardcourt surfaces too, much like this one.

The last time they played was in Vienna 2022 and Medvedev had won that in straight sets.

Medvedev Routs Dimitrov

You can feel the desperation that Medvedev has to succeed. To start winning tournaments at the rate of knots. But more importantly to beat the top players and break back into the top five of the ATP Rankings.

And that could be seen in his semifinals against Grigor Dimitrov where Medvedev played some of his best tennis to usurp his opponent 6-1, 6-2.

Serving up eight aces, Medvedev broke his opponent a whopping six times in the competition and while he lost his serve in the third game of the second set, he also lost just one more game post that break.

Medvedev could do with some better serving statistics though as he got 65% of his first serves in and won 69% of his first serve points. He would ideally like to get those two figures up in the 70s to put pressure on his final opponent.

Can he win his first title since the Vienna Open last year where he had gotten past Sinner too?

Seven Wins in a Row for Sinner

After winning the Montpellier Open, Sinner did start this tournament off with the loss of a set to Benjamin Bonzi but since then he hasn’t lost any more.

After having sent out Stefanos Tsitsipas and Stan Wawrinka in the next two matches, Sinner took down the local boy Tallon Griekspoor in his semifinal to clinch his seventh victory in a row.

It wasn’t the most straightforward of wins though, with Sinner spending nearly two hours on court for his 7-5, 7-6 (5) victory over the Dutchman. What was so clinical about Sinner’s performance was never in the match did he face a break-point while himself got just one such opportunity and took it.

That came in the 12th game of the first set when serving to stay in the set, Griekspoor fell 30-40 behind. Sinner broke to grab the set and then won 92% of his first serve points in the second set. While he didn’t get any break-points, a late mini-break in the tie-breaker is all he needed to make the final.

With the kind of form that Sinner is exhibiting, we could be in for a keen tussle in this title-decider.

Medvedev v Sinner Prediction and Tip

Medvedev is the favourite at 4/7 but it might not be that simple. Sinner’s form would count for something and so would be his serving as we could see these two men tussle it out till the very end.
