Iga Swiatek v Coco Gauff Head to Head

Iga Swiatek leads Coco Gauff 5-0 in their career meetings, and has not dropped a single set in any of those matches.

Swiatek Sails As Pliskova Withdraws

Iga Swiatek didn’t even strike a ball in the quarterfinal, benefitting from a walkover as her opponent Karolina Pliskova withdrew due to viral illness. But with the kind of dominance Swiatek has brazed over the rest of the tour in February, it wouldn’t have mattered if she played.

Pliskova suffered from cramps right after a third-round win over Anhelina Kalinina and had been struggling with a virus. But one would imagine even a fully-fit Pliskova would not have presented an obstacle in Swiatek’s path in the Dubai draw.

Swiatek won the title in Doha by dropping the fewest amount of games of any player in the Open Era en route to lifting the trophy -with five.

This week, she stands on the verge of breaking her own record which has barely lasted even a week!

Gauff Wins All-American Clash Against Keys

Coco Gauff’s semifinal win against Madison Keys was hardly edge-of-the-seat stuff in an error-strewn match with both players amassing a combined 82 unforced errors to just 14 winners.

In the end, it didn’t matter for Gauff, who reached her second semifinal of the season with a 6-2 7-5 victory in an hour and 20 minutes although, on the evidence of that performance, she is unlikely to get past Iga Swiatek.

The first set was extremely one-sided, with Gauff taking an early lead, forcing Keys to misfire uncontrollably from her potent forehand. Keys committed a whopping 22 unforced to zero winners, as Gauff raced to a 6-2 lead.

The second set was tight. Keys overcame an early break to restore parity. She had a couple of chances to force a third set while leading 5-4, but Gauff held firm. And she was left to rue those missed opportunities as Gauff broke her for the fourth time in the subsequent game.

The 18-year-old did not flinch while serving for a place in Friday’s semifinal

Swiatek v Gauff Prediction and Tip

Does Gauff have a puncher’s chance of inflicting Swiatek’s first defeat in the Middle East this season? The answer is an emphatic no. Regardless of their head-to-head, the World No. 1 has been relentless in swatting aside the competition this month and it is tough to imagine a different outcome here.
