Casper Ruud v Guido Andreozzi Head to Head

While they have never played each other at the highest level, there was one previous meeting between these two on Challenger circuit and that came in Lima in 2016. Interestingly, it was Andreozzi who had won it.

Ruud Resumes after Early Australian Open Exit

It’s been nearly six weeks since Ruud held his tennis racquet in a competitive match. So when he takes to court here in Acapulco for his first round match there would always be a chance of rustiness.

Especially because of the way Ruud’s season has gone so far.

Having started out as the world number two at the start of the season, Ruud has lost three of the five main draw matches he’s played in 2023. This includes a defeat at the hands of Matteo Berrettini at the United Cup, a shock opening round at the Auckland Open against Laslo Djere and a second round exit at the Australian Open.

Ruud had come into that match against Jenson Brooksby as a 1/3 favourite but crashed out in four sets.

Interestingly, Ruud opted not to play in any of the South American swing competitions despite his wonderful record on clay. His decision could have been based on the need to prepare for the Sunshine Masters starting next week but what this also means he comes into this tournament on the back of very little match preparation.

Andreozzi Makes it Through the Qualifiers

Andreozzi has been around on tennis circuits for a while now having kick-started his tennis career in 2007-08. However, most of his tennis has come on the lower levels where he has won nine Challenger and six Futures titles.

Unfortunately for Andreozzi, he hasn’t quite been able to translate that form into anything worthwhile at the highest level. Not in a long while for sure.

At one stage, Andreozzi had climbed up to 70th in the world – nearly four years ago – but it looks like his best years are behind him. What is noteworthy is he did win a Challenger title as recently as November 2022 and comes into this match on the back of a couple of qualifying wins.

In the first qualifier he overcame Facundo Mena before stunning Elias Ymer in the second.

Overcoming a world number four would, however, be a bridge too far for Andreozzi.

Ruud v Andreozzi Prediction and Tip

Despite his layoff of about six weeks, Ruud shouldn’t have a lot of problems winning this one. At best, we could see a slowish start and for one of the sets to run close.
