Daniel Elahi Galan v Riccardo Bonadio Head to Head
Galan won their only meeting in a qualifying round in Hamburg last year.

Galan is 1-5 in 2023
A first round win in Rio over Pedro Cachin last week would have boosted Daniel Elahi Galan’s confidence as the win was the Colombian’s first of the season.
Galan, who won two of his four Challenger titles last year, had a poor start in 2023. After withdrawing midway from his season opener in Adelaide against Mackenzie McDonald, he went down to Jérémy Chardy in teh first round of the Australian Open.
Galan then lost his opening round matches in Cordoba and Buenos Aires to Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera and Camilo Ugo Carabelli respectively. The straight sets win over Cachin in Rio would have come as a welcome relief, but the joy was short-lived as he was sent packing in the next round by Albert Ramos-Vinolas.
Ranked no. 83rd in the world, Galan is yet to reach a tour level final. Last year, the 26-year-old finished with a 13-12 record at the tour level, which included two quarterfinal finishes and runs to the third round in Wimbledon and at the U.S. Open, where he was making his debut.
The 1-5 start would bother him but he will look for a change of luck in Santiago, where he was a semifinalist in 2021.

Bonadio to Make His Main Draw Debut
Last week he had reached his career high ranking of no. 171. This week, the world no. 182 will be making his main draw debut at the tour level.
Italy’s Riccardo Bonadio knocked out Argentina’s Renzo Olivo in straight sets on Sunday to reach the main draw of the Santiago Open.
The 29-year-old did not face a break point in the match, but broke his opponent thrice for a 6-4, 6-2 victory. He was equally dominant in the first qualifying round against local hope Gonzalo Lama. Bonadio was leading that contest 6-3, 2-0 when the Chilean was forced to retire.
A 10-time winner on the ITF circuit, Bonadio reached his first two Challenger finals last year, but is yet to win a title at that level.
Bonadio is 9-5 in 2023. He was a semifinalist in Tenerife 3 challenger and a quarterfinalist in Tenerife-1.
It will be interesting to see if he can make an impression on his tour debut.
Galan v Bonadio Prediction and Tip
Galan, may be a bit out of form, but he will still be a heavy favourite against the debutant. The Colombian has vast experience and did pretty well last year in big tournaments. Expect Galan to start off with a win in the opener.
