Thiago Monteiro v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 28 year old Brazilian, and the Italian, who is two years older.

Monteiro Knocks Out Fifth Seed
Having been on a prolonged losing run, which was only interrupted briefly by a first round win in Rio last week, Monteiro would not have been full of confidence going into his first round match with the number five seed, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, especially as the Spaniard enjoyed the better head to head record.
Going an early break down hardly improved his morale, but he rallied, broke back and then, with Ramos-Vinolas serving to stay in the first set, broke again.
However, he dropped his serve at the start of the second set, could not convert a break point to hit back immediately, and the Spaniard consolidated his position to level the match.
When Monteiro dropped his serve early in the third set, he may have feared his chance was gone. But again he hit back with two breaks of his own, only to squander his advantage by dropping his own serve again.
He then had to save two break points on his own serve, either of which, had they been converted, would have given Ramos-Vinolas the chance to serve for the match. Instead it was the Spaniard who cracked under the pressure, offering the Brazilian a match point which he made count.

Cecchinato Survives First Round Battle
Cecchinato has played comparatively little this year, with injury hampering his recent progress, so he would have been pleased to have spent some time on court in his first round match with the Argentine Facundo Bagnis, especially as he eventually won the match.
An early break put him in control of the first set, and when he broke again and took the set in just over half an hour, it looked like it would be plain sailing for the Italian.
However, after the pair swapped breaks early in the second set, he was forced to revise his opinion when Bagnis broke him again and went on to level the match.
The third ser developed into a tense battle. Three games which went against serve left Cecchinato a break up and he held two match points on the Bagnis serve, neither of which he could convert.
And then, serving for the match next game, he allowed himself to be broken.
It eventually went to a tie-break, and after several missed opportunities on both sides of the net, another match point opportunity came the way of the Italian, This time he did not spurn it.
Monteiro v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip
Both men were pushed closer than they would have liked in their first-round matches, but survived to tell the tale.
On paper there is little to choose between them, but Monteiro is the higher ranked player, and that should count for something.
