Danielle Collins v Marta Kostyuk Head to Head

Collins and Kostyuk have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Collins Overturns Kalinskaya’s Quick Start

Danielle Collins has not been in the greatest of touches which has reflected in the fall in her rankings with the American having slipped to 38th in the world. And in another example of her struggles she did not have the best start against Anna Kalinskaya in her quarterfinal despite starting out a 1/2 favourite.

In the end though, Collins’ pedigree outshone her opponent as she slowly came back into the encounter and registered a three-set win.

The American needed an hour and 49 minutes to make it past Kalinskaya, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 despite getting broken three times in the match. She retaliated with six of her own with Kalinskaya caving in to her opponent’s serving in the final two sets as Collins won more than 80% of her first serves.

Collins had earlier routed Caty McNally in the second round and will now face a tricky opponent in the semifinal.

Kostyuk Continues Consistency with Friedsam Win

It has been one of the most consistent starts to a season for Kostyuk and she continued that with a straight-set win over Anna-Lena Friedsam to move in the last four.

Kostyuk registered a 7-6 (6), 6-2 victory against Friedsam in a match that lasted an hour and 51 minutes. And while she was pushed in the first set, at no point did Kostyuk look like she wasn’t in control of the encounter.

What this win means is that Kostyuk, who had started the season off ranked 69th in the world, would have broken into the top 50 of the WTA rankings irrespective of how she goes against Collins.

This improvement has been thanks to her consistent runs throughout this year, which has included quarterfinal appearances at the Adelaide International and Hua Hin Open and a third round appearance at the Australian Open.

Can she now put one across Collins as well?

Collins v Kostyuk Prediction and Tip

This could turn out to be a keen tussle with Kostyuk having the upper hand because of her regular runs in the season. While Collins is, in general, a better player, she hasn’t quite looked herself on the tennis court and while that could turn around, for now we will go with the Kostyuk win option.
