Dominic Thiem v Adrian Mannarino Head to Head
This is a rather interesting rivalry with the two having faced off nine times in their career before this. Thiem has won eight of those encounters.
At the ninth, which came at the 2021 Mallorca Open, Thiem was leading 5-2 in the first set and was on his way to winning another match against Mannarino when a wrist injury ended his time in the competition.
Little did he know at that time the injury would put an end to his season, keep him away for about a year and would see him struggle to win matches after that.

Just One Win for Thiem in 2023
Thiem’s struggles have been well-documented and while there is no doubting his effort at attempting to get back to peak fitness and form, the results have not been supportive.
So much so that this season, the former world number three has won just one match at the highest level, to go with seven defeats. That win came on the clay courts of Buenos Aires, where Thiem defeated Alex Molcan in the first round.
Since then, however, Thiem has fallen to three successive defeats though and whatever little hopes of a turnaround in form might have been in mind have been extinguished. He is back to square.
There isn’t too much positive that Thiem can take from coming into this tournament other than knowing he has the kind of record he has against Mannarino. And even that comes with a possible memory of what had happened when he took to court against this opponent two years ago.

Mannarino on a Three-Match Losing Streak
The season started off reasonably well for Mannarino but he enters the Indian Wells Open on the back of three successive defeats.
A quarterfinal loss at the Delray Beach Open to Taylor Fritz was on expected lines but defeats to Aleksandar Kovacevic at the Monterrey Challenger and Elias Ymer in Acapulco were surprising to say the least. In both those encounters, Mannarino’s opponents had gone in as 2/1 underdogs to overcome the Frenchman.
Earlier in the season, Mannarino had made the quarterfinal at both, the Delray Beach Open and Dallas Open with a win over JJ Wolf giving him the confidence of competing even as a 34-year-old.
Mannarino’s record record in the Indian Wells Open, however, isn’t much to talk about. In both his previous two appearances here, Mannarino has lost in the first round and with an overall 8-9 win-loss record in this tournament, things might not be looking the best for him.
