John Isner v Brandon Nakashima Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and all of them came in 2021 and in hardcourt competitions. Nakashima leads 2-1 with Isner having won their only match at the Atlanta Open final that season.

Isner 4-4 This Year Despite Dallas Final Appearance
On the one hand Isner has shown this season he still has a lot of fuel left in his tennis tank despite being 37 years of age. On the other, his struggles have, at times, looked like they have caught up with him.
Isner started off the season at the Auckland Open where he fell to Gregoire Barrere in the very first round. Things got no better at the Australian Open either where the American was sent packing by Adrian Mannarino in the opener.
It took him to get to his third tournament of the season in Dallas where he made it all the way to the final with a win over JJ Wolf standing out for him. Unfortunately for him, Isner fell in three tie-breakers in that title-decider to Wu Yibing and followed it up with another opening defeat in Acapulco.
While that previous loss wasn’t that much of a surprise given it came against the world number five Taylor Fritz, what was slightly surprising was it was the first time this season Isner hadn’t even been able to push any of the sets into a tie-breaker there.
Can he turn things around against his 21-year-old countryman?

Nakashima Struggling to Replicate 2022 Showing
It’s still very early days in the season and things might turn around for Nakashima but it must be said he hasn’t had the kind of start to the year that he would have liked.
Especially after the season he had in 2022 where Nakashima won a title in San Diego, wrapped up the season with an ATP Next Gen tournament win and hit a career-high ranking of 43rd in the world.
As compared to that, we are in the third month of the season, and Nakashima has registered just one win so far. That came in the first round of the Acapulco Open last week where he then lost to Mackenzie McDonald 6-2, 6-0.
Not the kind of result or the scoreline he would have wanted coming into the season’s first Masters 1000 tournament where he has never gone beyond the second round. Interestingly, Nakashima’s record in ATP 1000 competitions isn’t the best yet – he has won only three of the 11 matches he’s played in the main draw.
Can Nakashima swing things around here?
Isner v Nakashima Prediction and Tip
Between the two out of form players, we will have to back Isner here given his serving capabilities and the fact that Nakashima fell in the manner he did in his previous time out on court against McDonald.
