Michael Mmoh v Quentin Halys Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, both matches taking place in Australia. Mmoh won in Brisbane in 2017, but Halys emerged victorious from their meeting in the Bendigo Challenger event last year.

Mmoh’s First Indian Wells Main Draw Appearance

Mmoh’s previous attempts to make the main draw in Indian Wells have all ended in the first round of qualifying, so he will be glad to have avoided that this time and gained automatic entrance due to his ranking.

That was helped by his performances on the Challenger tour in 2022, where he reached four finals, winning two of them, both on home soil.

Then, as a Lucky Loser, he reached the third round of the Australian Open in January, beating the 12th seed Alexander Zverev along the way, substantially boosting his world ranking.

Although he was then beaten in the first round in Dallas, the following week he reached his fourth ATP quarter-final in Delray Beach, before losing in three sets to compatriot Mackenzie McDonald, but that was enough for him to reach a new career high ranking.

He enhanced that even further by reaching the second round in Acapulco, but had to retire from his match with Tommy Paul with an injury.

Mixed Results for Halys This Season So Far

Halys had an even better record on the Challenger tour in 2022, reaching seven finals and winning three of them. He was briefly the French number one before a dip in form in the latter part of the year enabled others to overtake him.

His results so far this year have been a mixed bag, Two quarter-final appearances in Auckland and Montpellier were sandwiched by a first-round defeat at the Australian Open, although, in mitigation, he was playing the third seed and eventual finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Forced to come through qualifying in Rotterdam, he was subsequently beaten in the first round by the local man, Botic van de Zandschulp.

Another Dutchman, Tallon Griekspoor, then beat him in the first round in Doha.

Again forced to qualify in Dubai, he suffered a straight sets’ first round defeat to the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Like his opponent, he has never played in the main draw of Indian Wells before.

Mmoh v Halys Prediction and Tip

For both men just being in the main draw of this event will be a novelty, and they are closely separated in terms of world ranking.

The American, though, does have the advantage of playing in home conditions, and, with the benefit of local support as well, that could make the difference.
