Mackenzie McDonald has put together a great set of results in the opening two months of the season. It is a lot similar to the kind of run he experienced back in 2021 when he reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and picked up the Nur Sultan Challenger.
While he hasn’t quite managed to win a title this time, McDonald has competed at a very high level and scored the biggest win of his career at this year’s Australian Open when he knocked out defending champion Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
Although his run in Melbourne at the third round stage, McDonald was part of the USA team that obliterated Uzbekistan en route to the Davis Cup Finals.
He has since made the semifinals in Delray and the quarterfinals in Acapulco. His record at the desert is 3-4, but he has never been so confident of a deep run than this season.

Krajinovic is 3-5 in 2023
With McDonald picking up 11 wins in 2023, Filip Krajinovic has only managed three. Two of them came in the opening week of the season where he made the last eight in Pune – his best result in 2023 thus far.
The Serbian has since won once in six matches and only taken two sets in that span. It is hardly inspiring stats for Krajinovic if he is to end his winless drought.
Krajinovic famously made the Round of 16 of the Indian Wells Masters back in 2019 as a qualifier. He scored main-draw wins over David Goffin and Daniil Medvedev in straight sets before bowing out to Rafael Nadal.
2019 wasn’t his highest ceiling, but he played great tennis at times and won over 40 matches. He will certainly need a huge slice of luck to turn his season around on Wednesday, but the odds are stacked against him.
