Alison Riske v Elizabeth Mandlik Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the San Jose Open in 2022 and Mandlik had won that one in straight sets.

Riske 0-5 for the Season

It has been a highly forgettable season for Riske who has just not been able to find her rhythm at all and lost every single main draw match she has played in. Five played, five lost.

Riske’s only win this season came at the Adelaide International qualifier where she started off as a 1/50 favourite against the 481st-ranked Alana Parnaby and came through in straight sets. This was followed by a defeat in the second round qualifier before she qualified for and lost as a first round lucky loser too.

What would be deeply upsetting is her last two losses came against players who were underdogs going into those matches.

At the Merida Open, Xiyu Wang was 11/10 to defeat Riske. Similarly Katie Volynets was 23/20 to overcome Riske in Austin. And both those times, while Riske put up a brave front, she went down in three sets.

Can she turn things around a player ranked nearly 100 places behind her?

Mandlik Hasn’t Won Anything Since the Last US Open

Mandlik had made it to the second round of the 2022 US Open with a win over Tamara Zidansek but since then hasn’t had any success go her way at the highest level.

Sure there was a win in a WTA 125 competition late last year but other than that, Mandlik has had to rely qualifying and the ITF tournaments for their victories.

This year too, Mandlik started off with a qualifying defeat at Auckland and a third round qualifier loss in Melbourne where she then made it through as a lucky loser. Not that it mattered too much as Irina Begu got the better of her in the first round there.

In the following two ITF competitions, Mandlik won just one match and followed it up with straight-set defeats in Merida (in the qualifiers) and Austin. With that kind of form, it might get difficult for her to challenge Riske too much here.

Riske v Mandlik Prediction and Tip

This is a match between two highly out of form players and given Riske’s better pedigree, we will be going with her for this one. In three sets though.
