This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Linda Coming off a Mixed Start
With a record of 5-4 in 2023 so far, some may say that 17-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova is not having the best of seasons. However, that can be forgiven considering that she is still a teenager, in the process of building experience and form.
Credit where it’s due, she is the current World No. 53. In January, she peaked at the 51st spot after a superb run in the Australian Open that saw her reach the fourth round before bowing out to Donna Vekic.
Since then, the Czech has reached the second round in Hua Hin and Dubai after beating the likes of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Danielle Collins.
Over the last couple of seasons, Fruhvirtova has impressed greatly, and all signs indicate that she is poised to go big on the circuit in the coming years. In September 2022, she won her maiden WTA title in Chennai after dismissing the current Aus Open semifinalist Magda Linette in the final.

Sherif in a Decent Form
Ranked just one place above Fruhvirtova, Mayar Sherif is starting in the BNP Paribas Open after a quarterfinal stint in Monterrey, where she moved past Camila Osorio and Xinyu Wang.
That was her best result of the season, with other campaigns ending in early exits.
While she may be considerably more experienced than her Czech counterpart, it is important to remember that Sherif is a clay-court specialist. All her singles finals on WTA and Challenger tours have come on the beaten earth. Even 13 of 18 ITF finals show a similar trend.
So a lot will indeed depend on how Mayar fares in the valley and adapts to the surface in a pretty competitive field. After all, she was just 1-12 on hard courts last season and while she is doing something to turn it around this time, can she keep it going?
Fruhvirtova v Sherif Prediction and Tip
This is likely going to be a close match, but Fruhvirtova has the advantage owing to her comparatively better form on hard courts. Of course, experience is still a factor, but if she starts strong, Mayar may be looking at a tough game.
